From a Whirlwind to Utah

Do you ever feel like the Tasmanian Devil spinning around?  A Tornado leaving a path of debris in you path?  Well things have been a bit like that for me and Squall~E.  Squall~E is the Van.  A 2003 Dodge Sprinter that gets 20+ MPG of 5cyl Turbo Diesel.  The name came on the way up Berthod pass for the first demo of the season.  It was a snow-squall and we where sliding around the hair pin corners.  This was made into and adjective (squallyn') and so was earned the name for the beast.  Squall~E

Inspired by Wall-E himself...

Loopin, Lappin, and Hand Slappin

Steamboat, to Liberty Skis Headquarters in Avon, to Powder Addictions, to riding Winter Park, and many hand met greetings sums up this past weekend.

Leaving Steamboat on Saturday after running around tying up never ending loose ends I was thankful for dry roads making for stress free travels.  My first destination, Liberty Headquarters to pick up an overflowing box of skis to be the new fleet for Powder Addictions.  "Serving up fresh lines daily," this new cat skiing and snow-machine tour operation is located in the newly constructed quaint village of Winter Park Resort.  These guys are only two years old and seem to have the vision along the fresh lines of those crazy toddler artists who sell their paintings for way more than the cost of 7-10 runs out of new snow cat.  Which in my opinion, is much more valuable.

Their art, is letting you paint the 2600 acre canvas of Jones pass on a pair of Liberty skis.

After meeting the welcoming crew....well who wouldn't be welcoming of the guy who shows up with loads of new Liberty Skis?  It was high fives all around!  But seriously, after hanging with the PA crew I crashed with my friend Travis to rise the next day for some skiing.

It was great to see so much terrain open and with near worry free coverage.  A crew of us lapped the well developed early season parks, the down-hill course which is always fun in it's snowy state, and found good powder stashes in the glades of the Mary Jane and Winter Park zones.  I wish that I had some shots of the day on the hill but our crew was too big and we where having too much fun to stop for Getting The Shot (GTS-ing) but rest assured that high fives, fist pounds, and maybe even some fist pumps thumped to the rhythm of good times.  So, in lieu of no photo proof, it is my hope that you will come and see things for yourself this weekend at the Winter Park Demofest.

Happy Turns~

Winter Park Demo Fest!

Kicking off the LBRT to Ride Tour is a consumer demo at Winter Park resort December 11 and 12.  This weekend will be filled with music from Skull Candy and of course plenty of ski, snowboard, and even snowshoe demos.  Each demo that YOU SKI a pair of Liberty Skis at will get you one entry in a contest to win a pair of skis and a day of cat skiing at POWDER ADDICTIONS on Jones Pass.  So come out and join the Liberty Bamboo Revolution!

Steamboat opened today. There has been more snow accumulation pre season than ever before. By that I mean since 1986. The amazing patrol rallied to open 1000 acres. It was one of the best days I've ever had here. So much went down. An edit soon to come. Thanks to Witney H. For snaping this on one of our last front side runs. Oh yeah. The 182 Double Helix killed it. That ski is SO stellar~

First Day on Skis October 28th

The first system of the 2010 winter caked the high country of the entire western U.S. So Martin Clay and I drove up to Rabbit Ears Pass outside of Steamboat and lapped the "Toilet Bowl" on the Liberty Helix. How was your first day?

Apologies as this crazy effect in the footage was not intentional. I'm having troubles exporting from final cut to the web.

While it's raining cats and dogs right now in Steamboat at 7000ft.  The freezing level is dropping and the white stuff is pounding the peaks!

I talked to some eager beavers yesterday who had toured Cameron Pass and probed depths of around three feet!  With the A-Basin and Loveland lifts turning, the itch for skiing has turned into burning!

Peep the 48 hour weather by color forecast and the first report of avalanche for the season.  Be safe out there~

Statewide Avalanche Conditions

Issued 10/24/2010 2:06 PM by Stu Schaefer
A series of storms will sweep across Colorado this weekend. Expect them to bring the first real accumulations of snow--at least a few inches over the weekend and more early next week. Remember: if there is enough snow to ride there is enough to slide. The first avalanche of the season was reported on 10/16. It was a 2 foot deep and 150 foot wide slab, starting in a windloaded area on a northeast facing permanent snowfield in Rocky Mountain National Park. Make sure you unpack your avalanche eyeballs with the rest of your winter gear.
The CAIC will update the Statewide Forecast as conditions change this fall. The Zone Forecasts will resume in November when conditions warrant.

Behold! The e-zine = Magazines look out!

A computer sits on your table way longer than any magazine.
While this may not replace the shiny print, it probably wont get all wrinkly and
dusty in your bathroom after it's been on the table for two months.
Check out this Word Pressed compilation including a very useful size comparison between three of the best up-coming outerwear companies:
Lethal Decent, Saga, and First Drop.
Also including a Colorado Mountain College entry as well as a Liberty Helix ad!

Lightpole Illuminating Lustrous Independence

Friend, peer, colligue, skier, photographer, designer, bean cobbler, Lightpole Clothing founder, and fellow world citizen Noah Wetzel has been a contributor to a few things dropping into the LBRT-FreeDemo equation very soon.  His vision is aimed to explode his Lightpole diffusion with high concentration gradient in Steamboat Springs, CO and Salt Lake City, Utah.

In the midst of this movement, he as provided me with the photography and companionship to produce a video introduction for this tour, and with a tee-shirt design both of which will remain a mystery for only a short time now.  Currently we are working out the details to have Lightpole ride with us in some way shape or form on this epic journey.

I was proud to see this article in the September 19th Steamboat Today newspaper~ Congratulations Noah!

Is It Winter Yet?

All of this new development signing on with Liberty and having to plan for this season leaves me dreaming, missing, and wishing.  Is it winter yet?  No~ long time to go, which is good because there is a lot of work to do before I show up in your hood.

This shot is from this past winter in Steamboat.  My good Chilean amigo on the right and I laid turns down on a mellow but solely sunny meadow putting our photographer Ned Cremen to work.  This was also the day I put my new 187 Liberty Helix to the test before Powder Week in Jackson Hole~
